Two teams of veterans from Sarum Orienteers competed last weekend in the Wessex Orienteers Hardy Relays. The event was held at Upton Country Park near Poole, Dorset and provided some good orienteering challenges over mixed terrain including open parkland and woodland. The race was run using the Harris format whereby teams of three each have to visit a core of six control sites with the remaining controls to be visited by at least one member of the team.

Charlotte Thornton, Liz Yeadon and Gwyn Davies powered round to win the veterans competition and to retain the Sarum Trophy (donated by the eponymous club) which has been won by our club for six years out of the seven. Denise and Dave Mullins with Dave Battison also ran well to take runners-up spot.

It has proved hard to field our usual complement of teams for the summer relay series.  The relays are always great fun and enjoyable social occasions as well as providing good orienteering so why not give it a go sometime.
