Getting Started

Charlotte briefs a team at the B course start.

Getting started in orienteering is very easy.
Simply arrive at an event that has been arranged near to where you live and introduce yourself to a member of the organising club.
They will be pleased to explain the rudiments of orienteering and set you off on an appropriate course. Events take place across the south and you may locate one using the map shown here.

An introduction to orienteering with tips for beginners is located on the British Orienteering Federation website: Newcomers’ Guide

Following your introduction to the sport it is a good idea to join a local club.
Orienteering clubs organise events and training activities which will help you improve your skills and build sporting friendships which can last a lifetime.
Sarum Orienteering Club would be pleased to help you make a start in becoming an orienteer.
Please do not hesitate to contact us to find out more information!
