Sarum’s first summer evening event was held at St. Edmund’s Arts Centre in Salisbury using a small part of the Salisbury City map including The Greencroft and Bourne Hill.

On a beautiful sunny evening a small group of club members first honed their basic control picking skills with several short routes in the Arts Centre grounds that required decisions on which side of a tree was the correct control; this caught out one or two at first.

Gwyn scorching round the score course.

There was also a score course that could be run either with the runner picking controls in their own order or, as a longer option, picking controls in numerical sequence.  Both options were tried on the night.  By the end several of us had got to know the paths and trees rather well as well as acting as running models for our favourite photographer, Shane Wilkinson.

After collecting in all the gear the remaining group headed off to the Five Bells for a warm down chit chat.  Despite a temporary absence of real ales the evening was finished off in typical Sarum friendly chatter.

Next month the Sarum Summer Series will be held in The Moot at Downton, an amazing place for orienteering in a small area.  We will be putting on a micro-score event with added Maze with a social get together afterwards in The Wooden Spoon– hopefully with beer. Do come along.
