Junior Club #11&12
With dark nights making outdoor training less easy the juniors retreated indoors at Five Rivers Leisure Centre for some computer-based training. In this session everyone had a go at a virtual Orienteering app dashing through a course and trying to spot and tag controls en route. Route Gadget was also used to work on picking a route through a marked course. This was also an opportunity to start learning what some of the symbols used on an O map actually meant.
The approach of Christmas brought the first term of the after school Sarum Junior Club to a close. A dark December night drove us indoors once again, this time to learn more about how to interpret maps, recognise features and think about picking a route using an O-themed jigsaw, cut up maps and one-on-one coaching. There was great team work and much concentration to complete the re-construction of maps and the jigsaw. It proved impossible to complete the jigsaw but the whole outline and several internal sections were completed.
The evening finished of with ‘Santa’ Phil supervising the emptying of the lucky dip. We all went home warm and dry and looking forward to the start of next term in 2018.
