We Start at the Arts
Sarum’s after school training sessions have just restarted. Over the coming year we will focus on building on the skills learned in the first year. Monday after school sessions will be less frequent but we will provide coaching at local events to build up confidence on running colour coded courses and competitive events.
A lovely late summer evening saw us back at the Arts Centre and it was very pleasing to see again so many children who had participated in the original after school club and a newcomer, Noah. It was also great to welcome back Phil Conway who had been so influential in establishing the juniors in our Sport England funded programme.
For this first evening Charlotte had planned a score event to give those entered in the British Schools Score competition the opportunity to try out this slightly different format and of running to a time limit. The twist here was that the children had to visit all the even numbered controls before the odd numbered, or vice versa. For the younger and less experienced the controls were run as a normal linear course with some adult shadowing.
As ever the activity aroused local interest and two youngsters who asked what was going on came back later to show off their Guinea pigs, which was kind. Not sure what the Guinea pigs thought of it all.
At the end of the evening there were presentations that would be familiar to those who attend our club dinner. ‘Rickys’ were presented to Phil for all he has done in establishing the junior club and Polly for being such a stalwart supporter and recruiter.
There are several weekend local events coming up and we encourage families to come along – we’ll be there to help you. The next after school session will be on October 15th at Victoria Park so put that date in your diary.
