With the dark nights here the juniors have either retreated indoors or donned lights for some night orienteering training.

In session #7 the youngsters learned something about course planning and tried this for themselves. Then, together with parents and coaches they worked on individual development plans to focus attention on important next stages in skill and fitness development. This session was held in the Bar area at the Hub Club at Skew Bridge, Salisbury. The Club staff made the whole area available and everyone enjoyed the brought and comfortable environment.

Session #8 took place outdoors on the Greencroft just before Sarum’s Wessex Night League event. Using glowsticks to illuminate controls and torches for map reading the children had great fun navigating at night. Ollie and Guy also had a go at a Wessex League junior course.

On a bitterly cold evening we repaired to the comfort of the Five Rivers Leisure Centre for session #9 where the children used computers to try out a virtual Orienteering game that helped them think about route selection. Using Purple Pen they also tried their course planning skills.

Next week, November 20th, sees everyone back outdoors for more glowstick-O at the Hub Club (Salisbury & S. Wilts Sports Club) at Skew Bridge. Hope to see you all there.

As ever, the photos came via the lens of Shane Wilkinson.
