Top results for Sarum as new Autumn season kicks off

WithDSCF1592 the multi-day summer festivals over Sarum Orienteers have turned their attention to more normal one day events for the autumn/winter seasons. A small contingent travelled down to St. Ives to compete in an Urban event round the famous Cornish town. Charlotte Thornton (W70) and Carolyn Dent (W50) won the Womens Ultra Vets and Womens Vets races respectively with Dave Mullins (M65) coming 3rd in Mens Ultra Vets.
The next day Kerno hosted the first of the new SWOA Galoppen race series in the sand dunes at Hayle Towans. Here, Ben Chesters (M35) continued his outstanding record in the SWOA Galoppen competition winning the top Brown course with Charlotte Thornton (W70) winning Short Green. The Blue course had more than a touch of family competition with GB runner Lucy Butt (W21) taking 3rd place ahead of Dad Jeff (M50, 5th) and Mum Jackie (W50, 7th).

Nearer home, Wimborne Forest was the venue for this year’s Dorset Delight, hosted by Wessex Orienteers.  On a beautiful sunny day Rob Ashton (M21) was 2nd on the Brown course, Nigel Benham (M50) 2nd on Green with Peter Hambleton (M70) winning the Short Green, despite carrying a cold and headache – poor thing!.
