Congratulations to Cameron Jacobs, Sarum Junior (M14) and member of City of Salisbury Athletics and Running Club who has been awarded a full scholarship that will provide him with a world class mentor for a whole year. The scholarship is part of the True Athlete Project (TAP) and Cam was selected from a number of local applicants for generous support from Sarum Rotary Club. In addition to orienteering Cam is a keen and talented runner, as anyone who has tried to keep pace with him can confirm. The photo is of Cam training in Madeira in October last – his Mum, Polly, can be seen in the background!
The TAP programme matches young athletes from around the world with mentors who are current or former international athletes, many of whom are Olympians or Paralympians. Mentors have a suite of TAP training that is tailored to provide the best possible support to their mentee, teaching a range of skills for their career in and after sport. Mentees not only receive the personalised nurturing support of an incredible role model, but also a personalised mental skills training programme.
This is a wonderful achievement and opportunity for Cam and we all wish him the best for his exciting year ahead. A lovely article about Cam’s award appeared in the Salisbury Journal of Jan 21st, 2021 and is well worth reading.
