COMPASS SPORT CUP & TROPHY FINAL 2026

The final was hosted by Mole Valley Orienteers and held in Pippingford Park Manor Estate on Sunday 18th October.

The area has a variety of woodlands, grassland, open moor and heather.

With ample parking, the assembly being adjacent to parking, the start in the corner of assembly and finish in the assembly area, all added up to this being a very good venue for this major event.

Forth Valley Orienteers  won the Compass Sport Cup Final out of 11 large clubs who reached the final.

Border Liners won the Compass Sport Trophy Final for smaller clubs, with SARUM a very creditable 4th place out of 15 clubs who made it to the final. This was our best result in the competition since 2019 when we also came fourth, coincidentally at the same venue!

28 SARUM members competed in the final, with the 13 best scores count towards the club total score. However, other SARUM competitors, who do not count in the top 13, could still have improved our position by beating other club competitors and reducing their total score. So nearly everyone could have had an effect on the final results.

Congratulations to our top scorer, William White, scoring 99 points for a very impressive 2nd place on Course 1. All SARUM individual results are shown at the end of this report.

The large club tent was put to good use, bringing everyone together and providing cover when we had the occasional heavy shower.

Charlotte provided a fun element to the day by having competitions within the competition. Charlotte had sweetie prizes for: The fastest leg from control 5 to control 6; The longest leg; The fastest run in.

Most importantly, Liz Yeadon presented badges for achieving colour standards to 2 of our juniors: Charlotte Cooke received badges for both White and Yellow courses. Olivia Cooke also received badges for both White and Yellow courses. Congratulations to them both.

The qualifying round for the 2027 Compass Sport competition will be held on February 7th with the SWOA round being hosted by Wessex Orienteering at Agglestone (near Studland). We’ll need everyone there to maintain our record of regularly qualifying for the final. The final next year is in the south again, to be hosted by Thames Valley Orienteering Club.
