About 700 orienteers, including 13 from Sarum, travelled to the Welsh Marches for SINS 2015 for a challenging but friendly and low key three days over the May Bank Holiday. Shropshire is a delight, quiet, uncrowded with lots of attractive and interesting small towns and villages. May is a wonderful time to visit the heart of the Welsh Marches with the lush greens of fields and trees very pleasing to the eye and, on a clear day, wonderful views from the hills over towards the hills and mountains of Wales. SINS gives the opportunity to savour all this along with some really enjoyable orienteering. SINS is rather like a Sarum event: well organised but still laid back, friendly and relaxed.
Sarum produced some good results with Ben Chesters running up an age class achieving perhaps the best result with 2nd place in M21. Peter (three first places) and Joan Hambleton (two first places and a third) took first places in M70s and W70s respectively, Charlotte Thornton took 2nd place W70L and Freda Peirce 3rd in W70s. Some other results were Carolyn Dent 5th, W50, Liz Yeadon 8th W65, Dave Mullins 10th M65, Richard Thornton 6th M70s, Alan Yeadon 9th M75. Unfortunately Club Chairman Ian Peirce missed one control (unlucky 13!) on Day 1 otherwise he would have been with the leaders in his group.
