Club Captain Ian Peirce showed that he is fully recovered from his broken ankle by rounding off the Summer with two great overall M70 wins at the White Rose and the Caddihoe Chase. Over the last weekend of August Windy travelled ‘up north’ to Pickering Forest and won both the long and middle distance races at the biennial White Rose event run over highly technical terrain combining step wooded slopes with semi-open moorland, to take the overall victory in the M70 class.
For the following weekend he headed back south to compete in the Caddihoe Chase this year held in Fernworthy Forest, Dartmoor. Although less technical than Yorkshire, the terrain was very physically demanding but Windy again triumphed winning both individual races to take the M70 long course title. His first day win ensured he retained his South West M70 champion title.
Sarum’s dominance in the M70 age group at the Caddihoe was ensured by Peter Hambleton winning both short course races. Other notable results for the South Wiltshire club included Ben Chesters (M35; 2nd), David Mullins (M65; 5th), Charlotte Thornton and Joan Hambleton (W70; 5th and 6th respectively).
