The 2015/16 Wessex Night League has just ended with Sarum’s own Charlotte Thornton glowing in the darkness to win the Women’s Handicap class. This is Charlotte’s third win on four years confirming her consistency in this challenging format. For the first time there was a prize for the competitor who completed the most races. This was also won by Charlotte who ran in and completed all the 14 events in the League, showing stamina and consistency. There were good results also for some former Sarum members with Andy Snell (BAOC) winning the Men’s non-handicap class and Mary Nixon (SOC) taking third place in the Women’s handicap.
We have a British Night Champion in Freda Peirce who won the W75 class. Freda was out running for 166 minutes which says much about her stamina and determination; well done Freda. In W70 Charlotte Thornton took second place and Ian Peirce was 6th in M70.
For most of us the longer evenings are very welcome and perhaps our night owl colleagues will appreciate the chance to recharge their batteries.
