Around 50 people enjoyed a lovely Summer’s day to take part in this mixed urban/woodland event at Woodfalls on the edge of the New Forest. The Green and adult Score courses took in both the urban and forest areas with a Junior Score, Short Green and Yellow courses using the Tinney’s Firs woods only.
Planner Marc Balston produced some challenging courses, especially in Tinney’s Firs itself. Despite this being such a small area, most runners emerging from the woods looked suitably chastened or relieved. It was fortunate that the boggy areas were unusually dry or some may not have survived! Your correspondent was quietly pleased to have completed his first event for a long time, albeit a modest Yellow course.
As ever, a band of cheerful Sarum volunteers helped ensure things ran smoothly under the guidance of organisers Jo and Bea Halsey: thanks to everyone who helped out. Mark White was controller and, with Hugh Holmes, also ran the computers. The new SI software and kit worked well and even allowed a small glitch with Control 99 to be sorted out.
Thanks also to The Woodfalls Inn and Woodfalls Social Club for access to their loo facilities
