How many orienteers does it take to enjoy the World Championships?
How many orienteers does it take to enjoy the World Championships?

24 Sarum Orienteers travelled to the Scottish Highlands to join over 6000 orienteers from all over Europe and beyond to compete in the biennial Scottish 6 Days orienteering festival. This year the event was held in conjunction with the Orienteering World Championships and most of the Sarum contingent worked hard in helping the team of largely volunteers running the major competition for the world’s elite orienteers before taking up their own maps and compasses in the six days of racing.
With the best four out of six races counting Sarum runners achieved some excellent results in the highly competitive and large fields and challenging terrain. Ben Chesters (M35Long) took a fine 8th place as did Ian Peirce in M70L. Alice Butt was 11th in W21Short and Toby Huthwaite 11th in M16B. Other notable results were Lucy Butt (35th W21Elite), Jack Benham (42nd; M21L), Charlotte Thornton (19th; W70L), Jackie Butt (41st;W50L), Alan Yeadon (6th; M75S) and Liz Yeadon (13th; W65S).
