Sarum Southern Champions Report

Sarum Orienteers Shine at Day and Night

The  Southern Night Orienteering Championships were held on the heathland of Puttenham Common and Britty Wood near Guildford in Surrey and Sarum claimed one champion with Charlotte Thornton continuing her long record of success by winning the W70 race. Pat Hart took a good second place in the W75 race and our Chairman was 7th on M70. There were good performances too from many of our armed services members with those of Kerry Larsen (3rd in UKOL 4), Rob Ashton (13th in UKOL 2) and Dan Cope (16th in UKOL 2) standing out.

In the daylight next day action moved to Hindhead and Devils Punchbowl for the Southern Championships and two more champions for Sarum. Lucy Butt had a fine run to take 3rd place in W21E and be crowned Southern Champion. In M21E William White kept up his good form coming 9th on the course to take the Southern Championship title. It’s great for the Club to have some strength in such competitive classes. Jackie Butt took a good 5th place on W55L with Jeff Butt 24th on M55L.  In the Army competitions Rob Ashton was 2nd on the Brown Course with Dan Cope, Chris Huthwaite and Dan Gallagher fighting it out for 15th, 17th and 20th places respectively.
