A brief spell of Indian summer contributed to making Sarum’s Saturday event at Islands Thorns in the New Forest a most enjoyable occasion. About 60 runners turned up to what was a fairly low key event but one that still needed the willing Sarum volunteer force to make it run smoothly.
There were four courses available, Orange, Light Green, Green and a one hour Score. Sarum’s William White was the only runner to score the maximum 400 points coming home in 58.16 min. ahead of Stephen Mallison of WIM (330 points, 60.25min. Jackie Butt was first lady home in 5th place with 280 points in 64.57 min.
Nicholas Jarvis of SOC took first place on Green (31.48 min) ahead of Andrew Howard (BOF; 44.00) and Andrew Graham (Sarum; 50.45). On Light Green Peter Hambleton took first place with Joan Hambleton (Sarum) taking first on Orange – both running down due to Start commitments.
Thanks must go to the Met Office for the beautiful weather, to Planner Hugh Holmes for the most enjoyable courses, Controller Ian Peirce and Organisers Liz Yeadon and Mark White and, as always, thanks to the willing club helpers – you all know who you are.
Whilst we were out enjoying his courses, Hugh Holmes was monitoring progress with his camera – as you can see from the great images he captured during the day.
