November Classic 2021

Following on from the previous day’s Salisbury City event many joined the 650 odd who competed in SOC’s November Classic run over/through the leg-sapping heather of Milkham,  Slufters and Broomy Bottom. The weather was beautiful but a cold wind ensured that nobody took time out to sunbathe. The added benefit to a 2km walk to and from the start and finish ensured that we all got our money’s worth.

A full complement of 12 courses were on offer, thanks to Planner Bill Davidson, and provided physical and navigational challenges for everyone.

The Black course was won by Ben Mitchell of SBOC following on from his big win in the Salisbury City race . Former Sarum runner Ben Chesters took first place on the Brown course. It was great to see Sarum’s own  Lucy Butt running on Short Brown and taking 16th place out of 104 entrants. Martin Goddard came 10th (out of 133) on the Green course and Lisa Cooke was 5th on Light Green.

As ever, our more experienced (i.e. older) members were out in force on Short Green with our Chairman Ian Peirce taking 12th place and two previous Chairs, Brian Hart and Peter Hambleton in 13th and 17th respectively, all within 2 minutes of each other. Not exactly sure what that tells us! Similarly, on Very Short Green Charlotte Thornton (6th) and Joan Hambleton (7th) were less than 3 min. apart.

Our juniors also did well. Max Duncan came in 10th on the Orange course and Charlotte and Olivia Cooke coming in 3rd and 4th respectively on White.
